Relactation

In some unfortunate cases, the baby loses out on breastfeeding. The process of getting the baby back and getting used to breastmilk is called relactation.

First we work on:

1. Sharing relevant information about relactation with the family
2. Understanding the exact reason why baby stopped breastfeeding like breat rejection, nipple confusion, discomfort, mother’s restricted availability etc
3. Guiding on the best and most comfortable position for mother and baby
4. Helping mother to improve supply if there is less production and guiding on effective feeding position, power pumping, supplement to establish milk production.

We help the baby by:

1. Doing a few breastfeeding trials and observing baby behaviour on breast
2. Restart breastfeding by using methods like dreamfeeding, distraction feeding, comfort feeding
3. Teaching alternate breastfeeding methods till the baby moves to exclusive breastfeeding
