Cleft Lip & Clet Palate
Babies born with a cleft lip or palate need to be positioned properly to ensure the baby is able to suckle well.
Some tips that we provide to mothers are:
1. Finding a unique position for the baby and mother’s breast to facilitate direct breastfeeding.
2. Adjusting the upright feeding position and making sure the cheek counter pressure works to facilitate breastfeeding
3. Providing breastfeeding training post surgery
4. Effective breastmilk expression training to fulfill baby’s needs
5. Counselling and confidence building activities for mother to ensure faster recovery in babies
